Prof. Haoming Ma is a tenure-track Assistant Professor jointly appointed in the School of Computing and the Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wyoming (UWyo). Prior to his faculty role, he was a Research Scientist at the UWyo’s School of Energy Resources from 2025 to 2026. Before coming to Wyoming, he was a post‑doctoral fellow at the Center for Energy & Environmental Systems Analysis and the Energy Emissions Modeling & Data Lab in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, working with Prof. Arvind P. Ravikumar.

Dr. Ma received his Ph.D. in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary in 2023, supervised by Profs. Zhangxin Chen and Sean T. McCoy. He holds an M.Sc. in Computer and Information Technology from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.Sc. in Energy Policy and Management from the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering at the Penn State University, where he also earned a B.Sc. in Energy Engineering with two minors in Energy Business & Finance and Environmental Engineering.

Toward an Affordable and Sustainable Geo‑Energy Future

Dr. Ma’s research interest lies in developing Geo-Energy System Modeling and Analysis platform powered by AI methods and multiscale remote sensing data. His work facilitates a clearer understanding of the complex financial and environmental benefits and trade-offs of the geo-energy systems.

He is particularly interested in the following topics:

• Geological CO₂ utilization associated with sequestration

• Methane emissions across geo-energy supply chains

• Geological hydrogen resources including production and storage

• Enhanced geothermal systems

Through this interdisciplinary effort, he delivers technical, socioeconomic, and policy insights that advance a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy future.
